City of Springfield issued the following announcement on Aug. 24.
Drivers should be made aware traffic on Jefferson Street between First and Third Streets near the
Amtrak station is currently reduced to one lane to accommodate City Water, Light and Power’s
emergency repairs to a broken 10-inch water main at the southeast corner of First and Jefferson Streets.
Some lanes will reopen after initial repairs. Others will remain closed until road surface repairs are
complete.
Motorists should plan to take alternative routes and should slow down and be aware of construction and
repair crews and equipment in and near roadways.
