When the United States Vice President makes a special point to campaign for your re-election, you can be certain voters will sit up and listen.

That's just what happened to incumbent U.S. Rep. Rodney Davis during a recent campaign event at the Panther Creek Country Club.

"With [Rep. Davis'] support, we’ve made incredible progress over the last two years," Vice President Mike Pence said in a speech that also focused on the economy and low unemployment. "It’s been two years of action, results, promises made and promises kept. We’re just getting started, Illinois.”

Pence said as election day approaches, voters should make a decision to head to the polls and re-elect Davis.

Davis said he was humbled and elated.

"This was a great day," Davis said. "To be able to share this experience with the vice president coming to Springfield is a very humbling moment for my wife, Janet, and me."

Davis said he was thankful to have the chance for Pence to talk about how important the upcoming election is for the country.

"We have 3.7 percent unemployment in this country," Davis said. "The last time we had 3.7 percent unemployment I wasn't even born yet. It was 1969."

Davis said when you have a good economy, you can do great things.

"Over the last two years, we've worked with the Administration ... in making sure the National Institutes of Health could study the dreaded diseases that affect so many families, be it cancer, Alzheimer's or ALS," Davis said.

Davis urged voters to vote in next month's election.

"We've got four congressional races that we need your help in making sure everybody gets out and votes," Davis said. "Republicans can win when Republicans get out there and vote. Republicans can win when we talk about our ideas and we talk about our successes."

Davis said no one epitomizes success more than Pence.

"We've got to elect Republicans up and down the ticket," Davis said. "This is a fight for generations and the Democrats know that."

Pence said America and Illinois need Davis back in Washington D.C.

"I’m here to support a great man," Pence said. "Davis has emerged as a voice for conservative values, a voice for the economy and a voice for agriculture here in central Illinois. We need Rodney Davis back in a renewed Republican majority on Capitol Hill."

Pence said Davis is a leader.

"Twenty-five days from now we’ll re-elect Congressman Rodney Davis and a Republican majority all over the country and make Illinois and America more prosperous than ever before," Pence said.

U.S. Reps. John Shimkus and Adam Kinzinger, both Republicans, were at the event.
