ABRAHAM LINCOLN MEMORIAL HOSPITAL: Before Baby: Six Signs And Symptoms Of Pregnancy

Pregnant

Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital issued the following announcement on Feb. 22.

Every woman is unique, and not everyone experiences the same symptoms when pregnant. If you pay attention to your body, there are some common early signs and symptoms of pregnancy you might have.

Breast pain. About a week or two after conception, hormone levels rise, which can cause the breasts to become swollen and sore.

One of the earliest signs of pregnancy is spotting and cramping called implantation bleeding. This occurs when a fertilized egg attaches to the wall of the uterus—about a week or two after it is fertilized. Sometimes an increase in vaginal discharge can also occur. These symptoms are often mistaken for the start of a period.

Many of the changes that occur during early pregnancy—increase in hormones, low levels of blood sugar and lower blood pressure—can cause fatigue.

Morning sickness. Nausea and vomiting are some of the most well-known symptoms of pregnancy. However, not all women suffer from morning sickness.

A missed period. While a missed period is the most likely indicator of pregnancy, it is not the only reason a woman can miss her period (think weight changes or hormone issues). However, this is the sign of pregnancy that leads most women to pick up a pregnancy test.

Bathroom changes. After several weeks you may not be showing, but you might experience frequent urination and constipation due to changes in hormone levels.
