ILLINOIS STATE MUSEUM: The Unfolding Story Workshop For Adults

Workshop

Illinois State Museum issued the following announcement on April 10.

Fee: $15 members, $25 non-members

Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 6 PM – 8 PM

Join us for a hands-on artist storybook workshop. Tell the story of your family, your life, your dreams, or something completely made-up. Participants will use the very simple design of an accordion book to create a continuous, unfolding story-board onto which a story can be written, drawn, and/or collaged. The current art and history exhibitions will provide inspiration, including visual narratives in the “Sing Muses” exhibition, artist books in Jeanine Coupe Rydings exhibit, and personal histories in “We Are Illinoisans” exhibition. The workshop will be led by Associate Curator of Art Doug Stapleton.

The book materials will be provided along with glue sticks, scissors, pencils, and some collage material. Participants can bring photographs, letters, decorative papers, and other collage material that they wish to use or share with other participants. No experience is necessary. Space is limited. Wine, beer, and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Register by May 1 at bit.ly/artbookworkshop or contact Sarah Davis at events@illinoisstatemuseum.org or (217) 782-6044.

Doug Stapleton is an Associate Curator of Art with the Illinois State Museum, artists and educator.
