Former state school employee Musselman paid in $49K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $610K in retirement

Former state school employee Arlyn Musselman, who retired in May 2017, saved $49,098 toward a pension over 10 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Musselman would collect as much as $610,160, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Sangamon Sun.

The projection assumes Musselman received $12,825 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Musselman will have already received $53,655 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
