The Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives honored Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) with its 2019 Public Service Award.

The AIEC presented Butler with the hard hat shaped accolade at its annual meeting Aug. 2 at the Crowne Plaza Springfield - Convention CTR in Springfield.

Butler, who represents the 87th District in the Illinois House of Representatives, expressed his gratitude to the AIEC in a Facebook post after the event.

“I cannot truly express how honored I am to receive this award; the same award given to two of my former bosses: Congressman LaHood and Congressman Davis,” he wrote. “The reason I am on the House Public Utilities Committee and the House Energy & Environment Committee is to look out for the interests of those served by our state's tremendous electrical cooperatives ... and to look out for the interest of those served by our state's municipal utilities.”

Butler added that many residences and businesses in his district are powered by organizations like Menard Electric Cooperative and Cornbelt Energy, locally-owned and locally-controlled private energy providers which, he said, were created to benefit those served from the power generated.

“I know one of my roles in the legislature is to ensure our state continues to provide safe, efficient, affordable electricity through organizations like our coops," he said. “And that's what we are fighting for every day.”

Butler said that he will cherish the award.
