City of Petersburg City Council met January 7

City of Petersburg City Council met Jan. 7.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:02 p.m.

II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS

A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Kevin Molohon, Nathan Grosboll, Andrew Gain, Bruce Gorman, Rick Sonnemaker, and Mike Allison. Also present were Treasurer Dave Frick, City Clerk Ken Ortman and City Attorney Chris Sherer.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Molohon and seconded by Alderman Gain to approve the agenda as Presented. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

III. CITY CLERK

A. The City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable.

A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. A motion was made by Alderman Molohon and seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the minutes of December 17, 2020 Regular Meeting. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, abstain; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

IV. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS

A. Police

1. Chief of Police John Jones gave the Police Chiefs Report. There were a total of 209 calls for the department for the month of

December. The Chief has gone through some Open Source Intelligence Training. The new squad car now has stripes on it and will soon have other markings. The other Dodge is having troubles starting and is at Nikles to get fixed. Hoping it is under warranty.

B. Fire

1. Fire Chief Pat Rebbe gave the Fire report. The Department ran 28 calls for the month of December. We promoted Firefighter Josh Kinder to Lieutenant. We need to purchase a couple of radios for use by the Department. Petersburg Fire will be competing in the Chili Cook Off at the Community Night at the PORTA High School on January 13, 2020.

C. Zoning

1. Question on the Head Start location next to Gilmors. DCFS required that they have a fenced in playground. They are also required by the city to have 6 dedicated parking spaces for the size of their building. The mayor will go talk to them Wednesday about it.

2. Discussion on the paving of Route 97.

V. OFFICERS’ REPORTS

A. Mayor’s Report

1. Discussion on DNR grant for walking paths.

2. Discussion on direct deposit of paychecks. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Molohon to look into Direct Deposit of Pay Checks. VOTES: Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes, Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

3. Resolution 2020-01 AUTHORIZING DEPUTY CLERK TO BE ABLE TO USE THE MAYOR’S SIGNATURE STAMP. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Molohon to approve Resolution 2020-01 AUTHORIZING DEPUTY CLERK TO BE ABLE TO USE THE MAYOR’S SIGNATURE STAMP as amended. VOTES: Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. Treasurer’s Report

None

VI. STANDING COMMITTEES’ REPORT

None

VII. SPECIAL COMMITTEES’ REPORT

1. Tree Committee. A motion made by Alderman Gain seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to accept the Tree Committee Report for December 2019. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

X. Old Business

1. Discussion on Marijuana issue. The Mayor is wanting to hold off on any action to see what the County Board decides to do.

X. NEW BUSINESS

1. The Census has job openings for Menard County. Pay is $17.50 per hour. They are wanting to get the Schools and Cities involved.

2. We need to nominate a Mayor Pro Tem for January 12 to February 2, 2020. The Mayor will be out of town. A motion made by Alderman Gain seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to nominate Mike Allison as Mayor Pro Tem from January 12 to February 2, 2020. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, abstain; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

XII. ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Gain to adjourn the meeting. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. Meeting Adjourned at 7:42 PM.
