ILLINOIS STATE MUSEUM: Creating a Vintage and Retro Wardrobe Workshop

Workshop

Illinois State Museum issued the following announcement on March 10.

Join instructor and textile arts enthusiast Linda Norbut Suits for an afternoon spent exploring the history of western women's fashion and learning how to incorporate retro, vintage, and vintage-inspired clothing into your look. The discussion will cover women’s fashion from 1800- 2000 including a look at the ideal body shapes through history, the difference between vintage and retro, and how these looks can fit into your personal style with resources to create vintage and retro looks on your own. As part of the program, find additional inspiration on a tour of the Fashioning Illinois: 1820-1900 exhibit. Register by Monday, May 4 at bit.ly/wardrobe20.

Linda Norbut Suits remembers having a needle in her hand when she was six years old. She still has the pocket handkerchief her mother used to teach her how to embroider. As a life-long resident of central Illinois, she enjoys all things sewing and fiber related. She was a museum curator for 25 years and is now an arts administrator. When she retires she wants to delve into art quilting, learn how to weld, and how to drive a semi.
