Riverton Village Board of Trustees met March 2.

Riverton Village Board

The President and the Board of Trustees of the Village of Riverton held their regular board meeting on March 2, 2020 at the Riverton Village Hall, Riverton, IL.

The board meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. Those answering roll call: Mayor Tom Rader. Trustees: Russ Patrick, Dave Charles, Ginger Payne, Joe Bartley, Jim Mileham, and Michelle Landess.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to approve February 17th and board meeting minutes, February 24th special board meeting minutes, and pay the bills. It was seconded by Trustee Mileham. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, and Mileham voted yes. Trustee Landess abstained.

People to Address the Board:

Mike Ray from the Knights of Columbus spoke to the board about the KC Fire Crackin’ Festival. It is scheduled for July 2nd. They would like to hold it at the Field of Dreams starting at 5pm until the fireworks. They have 2 food trucks, beer wagon, a DJ, and dunk tank. They are planning to partner with the Baptist Church for kids games and overflow parking. They have a contract with American Patriot Pyro Co for fireworks for $3000. They are asking for the village to cover the cost of the fireworks. Trustee Landess asked if they had checked dates with Dawson. No other towns are having fireworks that night. Trustee Charles asked what the parks need to provide. Mr. Ray stated that they need garbage and lights. Trustee Bartley made a motion to approve up to $3000 for fireworks. Trustee Landess seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham and Landess voted yes.

New Business:

Superintendent Lyons submitted his report.  Trustee Mileham made a motion to approve $7830 to repair a blower pump at the lagoon. Trustee Patrick seconded. Trustee Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham and Landess voted yes. Trustee Charles inquired about the cable company and any damage to the parking lots. Superintendent Lyons reported that they would monitor.

Deputy Chief of Police Landgrebe submitted his report. The Easter Egg Hunt will be on April 4th at 1:00 pm at the Field of Dreams. Mayor Rader asked about a rain date, one has not been scheduled. Trustee Bartley inquired about Kiwanis and Key Club helping.

Office Manager Patterson had nothing to report.

Treasurer Baker had nothing to report.

Committee Reports:

Trustee Landess, chairperson of the Administrative Committee, stated the budget had been submitted.

Trustee Payne, chairperson of the Public Safety Committee, requested closed session.

Trustee Mileham, chairperson of the Public Utility Committee, stated the budget had been submitted and thanked Alex Lyons for his assistance with the budget.

Trustee Charles, chairperson of the Parks Committee, stated the budged had been submitted.

Trustee Patrick, chairperson of the Public Works Committee, stated the budget had been submitted.   

Trustee Bartley, chairperson of the Economic Development Committee, reported that the developer of the interstate project is in the country and has submitted final approvals to Mr. Kuhn. They plan to break ground in April.

Mayor Rader reported that he had the opportunity to visit Riverton Elementary School 2nd graders to discuss local government. He thanked them for the opportunity.

Trustee Bartley made a motion to move to Executive Session at 7:15 pm. Trustee Charles seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Landess made a motion to return to Open Session at 7:34 pm. Trustee Patrick seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Payne made a motion to accept Tricia Langan’s resignation effective February 28, 2020. Trustee Bartley seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Payne made a motion to hire Thomas John as a full time probationary police officer at $18.99 per hour effective March 16, 2020. Trustee Landess seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.

Trustee Landess made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 7:36. Trustee Patrick seconded. Trustees Patrick, Charles, Payne, Bartley, Mileham, and Landess voted yes.
