Roberts Park FPD responds to 159 fires in 2018

Roberts Park Fire Protection District responded to 549 calls in 2018 - 4.2 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Roberts Park included 159 fires - 106 structure fires, 21 vehicle fires and 32 other fires. The fire department also responded to 15 calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $2,763,488 in fire loss - or about $17,380 per fire.

The department also received 375 false calls, including 43 malicious calls and 332 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, three fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Roberts Park Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $5,138,891 in 2017.

The Roberts Park FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 17 active employees and 21 retired or inactive employees, was $164,136 in debt as of April 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $1,094 for every fire in 2017.
