Palatine Rural FPD responds to 42 fires in 2018

Palatine Rural Fire Protection District responded to 163 calls in 2018 - 10.1 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Palatine Rural included 42 fires - 34 structure fires, one vehicle fire and seven other fires. The fire department also responded to eight calls for ruptures, explosions or overheating.

In all, the department saw $3,300 in fire loss - or about $79 per fire.

The department also received 113 false calls, including 11 malicious calls and 102 other false calls.

One fire service member was injured in non fire-related incidents.

The Palatine Rural Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $4,400,208 in 2017.

The Palatine Rural FPD Firefighters Pension Fund, which has 15 active employees and 20 retired or inactive employees, was $1,285,904 positive as of December 2017, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $34,754 for every fire in 2017.
