City of Atlanta City Council Met October 6

City of Atlanta City Council met Oct. 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

OPEN: The regular meeting of the Atlanta City Council was held at the Atlanta City Hall and remotely. The meeting was called to order by Mayor McVey at 7:30PM.

Pledge of Allegiance

Motion by Eimer second by Cheek to approve the minutes as presented.

Motion by Evans second by Colaw to pay all bills or as far as money allows.

Melanie Blankenship ask about the work on the parking lot near the Dentist. Mayor McVey said the City only owns half of the lot.

She voiced concerns about Sixth street being closed and Fire protection concerns. She also felt that traffic should be slowed on First Street and North Street.

The Mayor went over a report from Paul Goodwin on work done around town this summer.

Keith Gardner will have surgery done and will be off work for 6 weeks.

A sewer repair is in progress at the end of Vine.

The Council took up the purchase of a vehicle for the Rescue Squad. A2006 Envoy was found for $8052.00

Motion by Colaw and second by Evans to purchase 2006 Envoy for Rescue Squad.

The Council reviewed the annual treasurer’s report.

Motion by Cheek second by Evans to approve treasurer’s report as presented.

Trick or Treating was discussed and hours to limit the time 5PM to 7PM.

Motion by Eimer second by Cheek to allow trick or treating October 31st from 5 -7 PM.

The Mayor presented an ordinance vacating Sixth street. The City attorney went over the ordinance effective 3-1-2021, the anticipated start of construction at the school. The date could be changed if needed.

Motion by Evans second by Cheek to vacate a portion of Sixth street from Vine to Elm.

Mayor McVey shared information on updating the irrigation system at the Golf course. The cost would be approximately $19,280.93 from Board Tronics.

Motion by Eimer and second by Colaw to approve updating irrigation system at the Golf course.

The council took up some proposed work at the Coal Mine. Two estimates were reviewed one from a grant given to the Betterment Fund and the other from the City’s tourism funds.

Motion by Colaw and second by Cheek to accept estimates for work to be done at the Coal Mine and approve Tourism request in the amount of $3,740.00.

The City Attorney reported on the action taken to demolish the old Rexroat house. Thursday further action will be taken in court.

Colaw reported some people were hooked up at the charging station for extended periods of time. Discussion regarding 3-hour time limit and options will be investigated for accepting credit card payments for the use of the charging station

Evans gave the council some further information on the proposed sidewalk project. This covered areas and cost of the project.

Further planning was needed to tailor a large project.

Young felt that the outlying areas should be done before the places where sidewalks exist.

The Mayor brought up the fact that only one Police vehicle had a camera, and the City had no body camera. Chief Eimer will be consulted on the equipment and cost.

Alderman Evans asked that a shed placed on a resident’s property be investigated for a building permit.

The Mayor reported that the Park District wanted to tear down the barn and asked if the City had any use for it.
