City of Petersburg City Council Met Dec. 1.
Here is the minutes provided by the council:
I. CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:01 p.m.
II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS
A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Kevin Molohon, Nathan Grosboll, Bruce Gorman, Rick Sonnemaker, and Mike Allison. Also present were Deputy City Clerk Tracy Ciesler, and City Attorney Sam Bobor. Treasurer David Frick and Alderman Andrew Gain were absent.
B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
C. A motion was made by Alderman Allison and seconded by Alderman Grosboll to approve the agenda as presented. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
III. CITY CLERK
A. The Deputy City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Molohon and seconded by Alderman Allison to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
B. A motion was made by Alderman Grosboll and seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve the minutes of November 17, 2020 Regular Meeting. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Allison, abstain; Sonnemaker, abstain; Gorman, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
IV. HEARING OF CITIZENS
A. Doug Pope spoke on his plans to restore and refurbish the old Robbins Building.
V. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS
A. Police
1. Chief Jones presented the Monthly Report.
2. New Police Hire. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to hire Alex Thompson as a new Police Officer at the union rate. VOTES: Grosboll, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes, Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
B. Fire
1. The mayor presented the Fire Department Report. The Department ran 30 calls for the month of November.
C. Zoning
1. The owner of the Monument building will be bringing forth a Permit request for construction of a new building on 6th street in the B-2 District.
VI. OFFICERS’ REPORTS
A. Mayor’s Report
1. Employee Christmas Bonus. A motion made by Alderman Allison seconded by Alderman Grosboll to provide Full Time Employees $125.00 and Part Time Employees with 60 day continuous employment $75.00 Christmas Bonus. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
2. Employee Christmas Dinner. Because of Covid the office personnel decided to give employees gift cards to area restaurants instead of having a gathering at City Hall. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Allison to allocate $400.00 for gift cards to local restaurants.
3. City Bridge update. With delays in easements from contracted engineers bid letting will now be in March.
4. We received a letter from the Menard County Circuit Clerk that Petersburg Poultry has filed for Bankruptcy. We’ll have the City Attorneys look at the letter and provide a game plan.
