ACTION ITEM

Adoption of the Board of Education Meeting Calendar for 2021-22

The Open Meetings Act requires that before the beginning of each school year, the school board must set a schedule of the time and place of its regular meetings. The calendar for the 2021-22 school year must be approved per the Open Meetings Act and Board Policy. The proposed 2021-22 Board of Education Meeting Calendar was attached to the board report. All regular meetings and Committee of the Whole meetings begin at 7:00 PM.

There was additional information on the following:

∙ The proposed calendar does follow the traditional meeting schedule where the business meetings fall on the second Wednesdays of the month and there are Committee of the Whole meetings on the fourth Wednesday for five of the twelve months.

∙ There is one exception to the second Wednesday – for the August business meeting. When you post the tentative budget, it needs to be posted for 30 days before the public hearing that is required to be held. Historically, the adjustment has been made to the August meeting date. This date is also closer to the first day of school, which helps with the approval of the personnel report containing new teachers/staff hires.

∙ The meeting location listed for all meetings is Hubble Middle School. The District began live-streaming the Board Meetings during this school year to provide the public with immediate access to the meetings, and Board input supports the continuation of live streaming meetings. It helps to have one set-up location for this. Therefore, for the 21-22 school year, meetings are proposed to be held at Hubble MS.

∙ The District can resume providing a “Communication with the Host School” by bringing different Principals in to provide a Board presentation on the individual buildings. ∙ There are three Chat with the Board meetings listed on the proposed calendar (one in the fall, one in January, one in April). This summer, Dr. Schuler will discuss rethinking the student voice piece with the Board and propose a new idea for these sessions. ∙ It is a requirement to post this calendar before the start of the upcoming year. It was noted that as things come up during the year, additional/special meetings can be added.

It was recommended that the Board adopt the 2021-22 meeting schedule as presented.

MOTION

Member Booton moved, Member Paulsen seconded to approve the Board of Education Meeting Calendar for the 2021-22 school year as presented. Upon a roll call vote being taken, the vote was: AYE 7, NAY 0. The motion carried 7-0.
