November: No new registered sex offenders living in Athens

There are currently no new registered sex offenders living in Athens in November compared to the month before, according to the Illinois Police Sex Offender Registry.

Athens is home to zero registered sex offenders.

Sexual predators and child murderers remain on the registry for the rest of their life. Sexually violent people are no longer listed 10 years after their conviction.

The offenders moving into Athens may have been recently convicted or moved from other cities in the US.

A study from SafeHome.org found an increase in the number of sex offenders in the US, up to approximately 780,000 people as of May 2021.

Illinois has the fifth-highest number of registered sex offenders and the 21st highest number of offenders per population of 100,000.
