City of Petersburg City Council met Nov. 2.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:08 p.m.

II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS

A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Kevin Molohon, Nathan Grosboll, Andrew Gain, Rick Sonnemaker, and Mike Allison. Also present were Deputy City Clerk Tracey Ciesler, Treasurer David Frick, and City Attorney Jason Brokaw.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Allison to approve the agenda as presented. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

III. CITY CLERK

A. The Deputy City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the minutes of October 19, 2021 Regular Meeting. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

C. A motion made by Alderman Gain seconded by Alderman Allison to approve the minutes of October 19 Regular Meeting Executive Session. VOTES: Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Molohon, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

D. A motion made by Alderman Allison seconded by Alderman Gain to approve the minutes of October 19 Appropriations Pubic Hearing. VOTES: Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

IV. HEARING OF CITIZENS

None

V. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS

A. Police

A. Assistant Chief Mike Nichols presented the Police Report for the month of October 2021. The 2019 Durango is out of service waiting on a break caliper. Should be back on the road tomorrow.

B. Discussion on City Ordinance Officer. Mike reached out to the City of Bloomington in regards to an Ordinance Officer. Chief Jones has tendered his resignation to retire.

C. Recommendation and Vote for New Police Hire. A motion made by Alderman Molohon seconded by Alderman Grosboll to approve the recommendation of the Police Committee to hire Dakota Shaffer to the position of Full Time Police Officer at the rate of $18.73 per hour effective November 2, 2021. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. Fire

A. Chief Pat Rebbe gave the October 2021 Report. They ran 26 calls, 16 medical, 2 fire, 5 canceled en-route, 1 CO Alarm, 1 Weather Spotting and 1 Smoke Alarm.

B. New Furnace was installed last week. He signed to contract with Bolash Construction for the roof project. To keep the price from going up on materials they are purchasing them now and storing at the Fire House till spring.

C. We have a large amount of stuff items that needs to be listed as surplus. Pat will get a list together to dispose of surplus property.

C. Zoning

None

VI. OFFICERS’ REPORTS

A. Mayor’s Report

A. Opening bids on Wheel Loader and Vote. Two bids were received for the 345 Wheel Loader.

Central Illinois Tree Service-Zack Minor

$3500.00 worth of tree service or $3100.00 Cash

Mark Wethenton

$3705.00

A motion made by Alderman Gain seconded by Alderman Allison to accept the bid from Mark Wethington Construction for $3705.00. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. Discussion on City Parking Lot. The Mayor brought up the subject of the City Parking Lot behind County Market. The Mayor gave the story behind the truck parking at the City Lot. He asked the Council if they would like to change anything in the ordinance to allow for County residence to use it or other issues.

Alderman Gain asked about the alley behind The Broadgadge.

A motion was made by Alderman Gain and seconded by Alderman Allison to adjourn the meeting. VOTES: Molohon, yes; Grosboll, yes; Gain, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. Meeting Adjourned at 8:43 p.m.
