State Sen. Sally Turner (R-Lincoln) on Feb. 10 hosted a tele town hall to update constituents on the spring legislative session.

Joining Turner for the event was state Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield). The duo took questions from the public.

Turner recently joined her Republican colleagues in calling for legislation that would include ethics and lobbying reform.

"I have unfortunately quickly learned that our state lacks the adequate protections against corruption in many areas," Turner said during a Jan. 27 press conference, according to the McLean County Times. "Whether it's a process of how the Legislative Inspector General is chosen or the constraints placed on those responsible for fighting corruption, such as in the Legislative Inspector General's Office, or the countless loopholes that may be manipulated for unethical purposes."

She has also sought to remind constituents of resources that could help them, like financial help for rent and utilities, according to the Sangamon Sun.

"The Governor has issued a disaster proclamation for 28 counties impacted by the recent storms and tornadoes" Turner posted to Facebook on Dec. 13, according to the Sangamon Sun. "The proclamation includes three counties within the 44th Senate District: Logan, Sangamon, and Tazewell. This proclamation will help expedite the use of state resources, personnel, or equipment, and allows the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) to procure additional resources to help communities recover. Residents impacted by the storms can access helpful information and services at the virtual Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) website."

Serving the 44th District since 2021, Turner is a member of the Senate Ethics Committee. Before being appointed senator, Turner was a juvenile probation officer, a paralegal in the Office of the Logan County State’s Attorney and Logan County Clerk and Recorder. After Turner's clerk position, she returned to school, completing her master’s degree from Lincoln Christian University in Organizational Leadership. She then taught Citizens and Government classes at the university for 13 years, according to the Senator's website.

The 44th District of Illinois includes all or parts of Logan, McLean, Menard, Sangamon and Tazewell counties.
