State Rep. Sandy Hamilton (R-Springfield) has announced plans to run in the newly redrawn 48th State Senate district.
“Over the last few years, families across central Illinois have expressed their frustration with the decisions made by our state’s leaders and the long-standing system of government that prioritizes insider-dealing over serving constituents,” Hamilton told WAND. “As crime increases and high taxes continue to push people out of our state, we need leaders that will stand behind law enforcement, advocate for real financial relief for hard-working families and push back on one-size-fits-all mandates handed down to local communities.”
The 48th Senate District includes much of Springfield, where Hamilton has gained a steady following since being appointed as Rep. Mike Murphy’s 99th House District replacement in 2021.
The primary election is scheduled for June 28; the general election is set for Nov. 8.
With no other Republicans having announced a run for the seat thus far, Hamilton’s announcement included appearances from Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield), Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) and Senate Minority Leader Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods).
Over her time in office, Hamilton has introduced five bills related to mortgages, evictions, property tax, suspending the motor fuel tax and changing regulations surrounding parking. She currently serves on legislative committees that include the financial institutions, state government administration and insurance committees.
Hamilton is originally from Downers Grove and after graduation from the University of Illinois, she embarked on a dual-career in the central Illinois area as a real estate broker with ReMax Professionals and as a high school and collegiate volleyball coach.
