City of Athens City Council met May 5

City of Athens City Council met May 5.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. Welcome given by Mayor Reichert. Roll call was taken by Clerk Rhonda Ethell. All the Alderman were present.

Mayor Reichert asked Chief Becker for the police report.

All vehicles maintenance is up to date. Fully staffed and trained, operating 24/7 patrol coverage.

During the month of April, Athens officers responded to 113 calls for service, conducted 31 traffic stops, issued 8 citations and 22 verbal warnings. There were two traffic crashes during the month.

During the month of April four ordinance violation warning were issued.

Mayor Reichert than asked Treasurer Derek Frits for the treasurer’s report, public works report. Transfers from General Fund to the Alternate Bond Fund for the WTP $36,000 and the WWTP $20,200.

$$1,000 was transferred from the Alternate Bond Fund to the General fund to cover the cost of the sludge removal by Metro Ag. Motor fuel received $6,617 in tax revenue.

On streets the guys have been busy patching roads, cleaning culverts and picking up brush. Spent a couple of days at the old park cutting and grinding stumps.

Spent several days identifying problem areas for groundwater infiltration into the sanitary sewer system. Still waiting for blower motor to be finished.

Prairie State Plumbing has started the valve replacement project. Received construction permit for well #8 from the IEPA.

The starter and flywheel were replaced on the 2012 F250 at Deane’s Garage. 2003 International dump truck had a power steering pump replaced by Tri-County Fleet Services.

Mayor Reichert asked Alderman Lantz for the Cemetery report. Alderman Lantz reported that rock was needed on the drive and trash cans needed emptied. The Veterans Flags would be placed on the graves.

Mayor Reicher asked Ginger Library Director for the Library report. The book sale profited around $1,500. The Tea Party was a success with twenty-seven people attending. The Summer reading program would kick off on May 24th.

New Business

Anne Smith present Electric Recycling date for June 11th, $200 truck fee Menard County Jaycees willing to help. Will be put on Monday’s agenda

Ginger presented the Library Budget after discussion will be moved to Monday’s meeting for more information.

Judi Harlan from the zoning board asked for council approval of the two new board members, Jessica Muller and Nick Ethell. Voting will be on Monday’s agenda.

Solar Energy presentation by IQ Group.

EPAY changes for bill payments would provide one credit card reader.

Discussion of Business Development District which would provide growth for the business district. Further discussion to be added to special meeting agenda.

Old Business

Rural Water District Proposal joint proposal with Petersburg, formal proposal has been drafted. Add to Monday nights agenda

July 2nd fireworks budget, 30% increase in cost would be 12,000 for the same show as last year. City donation of $4,000 plus $1,000 from remainder of last year. Added to Monday’s agenda.

Bond perimeters ordinance written before sale permits bond sales without an additional meeting, added to Monday nights agenda.

Motion made to adjourn meeting by Alderman Thompson. Meeting adjourned at 8:53
