The Springfield School Board was told at its Sept. 6 meeting that the beginning of the school year is going very well for high school students in the district.

"So school has begun, and for the past two weeks, Southeast has had an average attendance rate of 90%. And I think that is super good to me," said Passion Hood, student representative of the Springfield School Board. "Students are feeling safe, protected and ready to learn, which I think is probably the most important thing going back to school.”

Passion also gave a report on the first few home football games for the district where she entertained as a cheerleader.

Superintendent Jennifer Gill also reported that the first few home games went very well, with over 2,000 people in the crowd at the first game. She thanked the players and coaches for allowing all three high schools to share the same football field and facilities this year. She also recognized Alex S. from Lanphier High School as he won the Scholar Athlete of the week award; he plays soccer, baseball, football, and esports.

The superintendent recognized various students and student organizations in her report. The Springfield High band was recognized for its opportunity to participate at the St. Louis Cardinals game. The eSports teams went to the fair and were able to compete, and several students placed in the top three of their respective games and leagues.
