At a recent meeting, the Ball-Chatham School District Board of Education saluted Glenwood Middle School athletic teams that won state championships.

During the meeting, which was streamed on YouTube, the board recognized members of the state-champion girls' softball team and boys' and girls' cross-country teams.

“We wanted to congratulate each one of you on your efforts and your success this year in the season,” Board President Tiffani Saunders said during the meeting.

The Glenwood Middle School girls' softball 3A state championship team was honored for its championship run, with the state title capping off an undefeated season, winning 61 games in a row, ending in an exciting 7-6 victory to win their third straight state championship, according to a stream of the meeting. The roster was announced and members of the team who attended the meeting stood at the front for applause and a photo with board members.

Glenwood’s boys' and girls' cross-country teams also were recognized for achievements during the state tournaments, at which both squads won state titles, marking the first time since 2009 that both teams have won championships during the same year.

Each runner was announced and recognized for their accomplishments, with individuals from each team tallying enough points to rank in the top 25 of the state, earning all-state honors. It was noted during the meeting that all five scoring positions on the girls' team garnered individual honors, with a dominating performance that had them 121 points ahead of the second-place team.
