Jennifer Gill, Springfield School District 186 superintendent, recently shared the progress and events from across the district over the past month.

At the Nov. 7 District school board meeting, Gill announced that Lawrence Education Center had recently been named for "best tutoring at a learning center" by the Illinois Times. She noted her enjoyment at watching the Lawrence Education Center and Springfield Learning Academy join forces in their spaces and services and how they serve their students.

Gill also gave some updates on the current projects happening in the district. She showed the new cafeteria tables that were installed in Jefferson Middle School that have the school colors and mascots on them. They have been slowly working through cafeterias in the district, putting in new tables of all shapes and types and making the cafeteria a more fun and bright place for students to enjoy their lunchtime.

Lanphier High School has a lot of work going on right now. They are putting up new drywall on the third floor, finishing and painting the walls. They will be installing recessed lighting in those hallways as well. Additionally, they will be placing new window frames into the old parts of the building that date back to the 1930s. The stadium buildings are also nearing completion for the high school facilities.
