SIUE’s Ora Lockett Shares Health Secrets, Business Savvy and Published Works

When it comes to promoting a healthy, holistic lifestyle and illustrating lessons in resolve, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s Ora Lockett is her own best advertising. Lockett, interim director of the Building Futures program at the SIUE East St. Louis Center, and founder and CEO of THE GR8FULL COMPANY and BUILD GR8NESS NETWORK, will be the guest speaker during Women’s History Month programming at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 22 at the SIUE East St. Louis Learning Resource Center (LRC).

Lockett acknowledges she’s like most women, who find themselves with their hands full of work, obligations and duties. She credits tenacity, which has been her fuel, to not only keep going but excel at what she sets her mind on.

“One attribute that comes to mind is resilience,” noted Lockett. “In order to feel empowered, you must understand that every obstacle is an opportunity to challenge yourself, and in business, there are a number of challenges.”

“Subsequently, becoming a lifelong learner is the reason why I have such a passion for knowledge,” she continued. “It has enabled me to be the best version of myself.”

Lockett’s first business venture was an outgrowth of her quest for self-improvement.

“In early 2019, I started researching natural alternatives for my hair and came across a culture known as the Yao women (of the red Yao tribe in China),” she explained. “This culture is known for growing record-length hair.  In October 2019, our first product was created and THE GR8FULL COMPANY was born. We went on to create a total of 24 health and wellness products, including products for haircare, men’s care, natural body butter, herbal supplements, teas, and now products for the home.”

In 2020, her love for business and helping others led to creating THE BUILD GR8NESS NETWORK. “We help other businesses find funding such as grants and other business solutions to help businesses get back on their feet.”

The next logical step for Lockett was to put her findings and achievements into print. In 2021, she created her first publication, “Funding My Dreams,” a planner designed to help business owners build business credit.

Lockett’s latest work is her first health and wellness publication, “The tea to a healthy you,” which was published in December 2022.
