Q1 2022 Recap: 6 parolees from Sangamon County convicted of crimes involving weapons set for release

There were six offenders convicted of crimes involving weapons living in Sangamon County released on parole during the first quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows five men and one woman were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes involving weapons was 29. The youngest parolee was a 21-year-old man sentenced in 2020, and the oldest was a 47-year-old man sentenced in 2022.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Jamal L. Collier. He was convicted in 2020 when he was 18 years old. He is now 21.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
