Q2 2022 Recap: 2 parolees from Sangamon County convicted of homicide set for release

There were two offenders convicted of homicide living in Sangamon County released on parole during the second quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows a man and a woman were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for homicide was 55. The younger parolee was a 41-year-old woman sentenced in 2007, and the oldest was a 69-year-old man sentenced in 1994.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was James W. Harlan. He was convicted in 1994 when he was 40 years old. He is now 69.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.

The following table shows how many offenders convicted of homicide were paroled during the second quarter of 2022 in each Illinois county.
