Ball-Chatham Community Unified School District 5 Facilities and Grounds Committee met April 5
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Committee members in attendance, Patrick Phipps and Steve Bryant. Superintendent Dr. Becca Lamon and the Director of Facilities and Grounds, Mike Dobbs. The meeting was held at the District Office.
GMS Water Line
The February water bill for the middle school was approximately $9,000 which prompted us to start looking for a water leak. Were unable to pinpoint the leak until last week but during our exploratory digs we discovered that the main water piping was in very poor condition. We decided to replace the main water line in lieu of repairing the leak but still install a temporary patch once the leak was located. The leak was identified and patched on March 31, 2023. Due to the potential for heavy rains and the risk of the trench collapsing we are going to hold off on running the new water pipe until it is safer to do so.
GHS Roof Project
The materials were delivered to the site in early March and the work began over spring break. After coordinating the work with Mr. Ryan Green we decided to allow the work to continue during occupied times unless there was a complaint while using adhesives. The southeast section over the student entrance is complete and the area north of the auditorium barrel roof is scheduled to be completed tomorrow. Based on rate of progress, the roof should be completed in approximately 4 weeks, weather permitting.
GHS Sewer Project
The project was awarded and contract documents have been sent to Petersen Plumbing for signature
BES Hvac Renovation Project
The project was awarded and contract documents have been sent to Henson Robinson Co. for signature
WSEC Facility
George Alarm has taken over monitoring the fire/burglar alarm systems. The district has met with each director to determine their department needs as it relates to the facility and areas have been assigned. We also met with Graham and Hyde Architects to develop a scope of work, create specifications/drawings and provide project oversight. The project will be publically bid and the awarded general contractor will be responsible for the entire content of the scope. A portion of the upgrade was awarded to Heart Technologies to demo the existing IT/Data cabling which no longer meets todays minimum communication requirements.
Facility Assessment
Mr. Bryant asked about the status of the ongoing roof leak at CES. Dr. Lamon stated that the leak still exists and that we are still waiting for the written report on Chatham Elementary to determine next steps on the roof. Mr. Dobbs will follow up with Graham and Hyde to get a status on the report.
