Ball-Chatham Community Unified School District 5 Board of Education met Aug. 9.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

1. OPEN SESSION

Procedural: 1.1 Call Meeting to Order

Board Vice President Laura Calderon called the Special Meeting of the Board of Education to Order.

Procedural: 1.2 Pledge of Allegiance

All stood for the Pledge.

Action: 1.3 Roll Call

Bryant, Calderon, Murphy, Phipps and Rediger were present. Board President Saunders and Dr. Ann Strahle were absent for the entire meeting.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Action: 2.1 Approval of Agenda

Board Vice President Calderon called for a motion to approve the agenda.

Bryant moved to approve the agenda for the August 9, 2023 meeting. Upon said motion being seconded by Phipps, the Board Vice President called for a vote. All present members voted "yes."

3. COMMUNICATIONS

Information: 3.1 Citizens- Opportunity for Visitors to Address the School Board Concerning any Agenda Topic

None were noted.

4. PERSONNEL CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

Action: 4.1 Adoption of Consent Personnel Agenda Items

Board Vice President Calderon asked if anyone would like to pull any items from the personnel consent agenda items. None were noted. Board Vice President called for a motion.

Phipps moved to approve the Consent Personnel Agenda Items as presented. Upon said motion being seconded by Murphy, the Board Vice President called for a vote. All present board members voted "yes."

5. COMMUNICATIONS

Information: 5.1 Citizens - Opportunity for Visitors to Address the School Board Concerning Any Topic

- Ryan Armstrong, parent, addressed the board regarding bathroom access and gender identity. 

- Steve Bryant, addressed the board as a citizen/parent and read the Illinois law that all Illinois public school districts are required to follow regarding bathroom access and gender identity.

6. ADJOURNMENT

Action: 6.1 Adjournment of Regular Meeting

Board Vice President adjourned the meeting.
