Ball-Chatham Community Unified School District 5 Facilities and Grounds Committee met Oct. 11.
Here are the minutes provided by the committee:
Committee members in attendance, Patrick Phipps and Steve Bryant. Board member, Andrea Rediger. Secretary, Superintendent Dr. Becca Lamon and the Director of Facilities and Grounds, Mike Dobbs.
GHS- Restroom Partitions
All restrooms have been upgraded with the exception of the commons. Those are scheduled to be completed on October 19th and 20th, 2023.
BES Hvac Renovation
The ceiling and lighting replacement portions of the project are complete. The rooftop heating and cooling units are still scheduled to be installed and commissioned over winter break.
GHS Auditorium Lighting
A pre-construction meeting was held on September 1, 2023 to discuss the construction schedule and timelines. Demolition is scheduled to begin approximately March 25, 2024 with a substantial completion date of June 30, 2024. Graham and Hyde Architects is applying for a grant which should cover the cost to replace the house lights.

The project was awarded to Michael von Behren Buildings and demolition began on October 2, 2023. The majority of the hallway ceilings and light fixtures have been removed as well as the wall between the two storage rooms. The parapet walls are being reinforced will plywood accept the new roofing materials and some of the rooftop A/C units have been taken off of the roof temporarily, to accommodate the roof replacement. The renovation cost does not reflect any additional costs for Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment (FFE) such as appliances and/or furniture.
GHS Sports Complex Pole Lighting
The district hired B&B Electric to make repairs to the pole lighting at the GHS Sports Complex. The work involved replacing ballasts, bulbs, circuit breakers and fuses. The lighting for the football and soccer fields should be 100% operational.
GIS Boiler Replacement
Due to a cracked heat exchanger on one of the three boilers, boiler # 3 needed to be replaced. A new, more efficient boiler was installed in early October by E.L. Pruitt. The new unit is currently being programmed to operate using the districts building automation software. And will be commissioned to operate shortly thereafter.
