Menard County Board of Commissioners met Oct. 24.

The Menard County Board of Commissioners met for a special board meeting on Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. in the Menard County Courthouse, 102 S. Seventh Street, Petersburg, Illinois. Commissioners Bob Lott, Jeff Fore, Ed Whitcomb and Troy Cummings were present. A quorum was present. County Coordinator Dara Worthington was also present. Commissioner Rich Brauer was absent.

The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m.

Hearing of Citizens (Unscheduled Public Comments/Requests for Board Action)

There were no unscheduled public comments/requests for Board action.

Scheduled Topics

A request for a liquor license was presented from TDHMH Enterprises, Inc. DBA Stadium Bar & Grill for an event at Homestead on October 28, 2023. Commissioner Jeff Fore made a motion to approve the license and Commissioner Ed Whitcomb seconded. The motion carried with four ‘ayes’, no ‘nays’ and one absent.

Menard County Treasurer Pam Bauser addressed the commissioners relaying her recent marriage over the weekend. Treasurer Bauser also announced her retirement effective at the end of this calendar year. The commissioners expressed their congratulations and well wishes.

FY24 Budget presentations were made by Treasurer Pam Bauser, Menard County Sheriff Mark Oller, Chief Deputy Ben Hollis and Administrative Assistant Ann Gorman, Steven Hart and Catherine McDowell from Heritage Operations Group, LLC, State’s Attorney Gabe Grosboll, County Coordinator Dara Worthington, and Circuit Clerk Elyse Waibel. Comparisons between fiscal years were made and explanations were given for both requests for increases and decreases to line items. Discussion went on at length about the increase in the number of unfunded mandates being placed upon the different departments. Dialog occurred regarding the proposed salary increase for non-union employees and departmental needs.

It was reiterated that the budget adoption date was tentatively set for the November 14 board meeting.

Adjournment

With no other business coming before the Board, Commissioner Troy Cummings moved to adjourn the meeting. Commissioner Jeff Fore seconded the motion. The motion carried with four ‘ayes’, no ‘nays’ and one absent.
