City of Petersburg City Council met Nov. 7.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER

Mayor Rick Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:05 p.m.

II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS

A. Members present were Mayor Rick Snyder, Aldermen Bruce Gorman, Rick Sonnemaker, and Mike Allison. Also present were City Clerk Ken Ortman, Treasurer David Frick, and City Attorney Jason Brokaw. Alderman Heidi Hiser, Nathan Grosboll and Andrew Gain were absent.

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.

C. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the agenda as corrected. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Allison, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

III. CITY CLERK

A. The City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Gorman, yes; Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

B. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Allison to omnibus approval of the minutes of October 17, 2023 Regular Meeting, minutes of October 16, 2023 Personnel/Police Committee and minutes of the October 16, 2023 Personnel/Police Committee Executive Session . VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

IV. HEARING OF CITIZENS

A. Bri Allison – Light Up The Square. Bri discussed the street closure for Light up the Square on December 1, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A motion made by Alderman Allison seconded by Alderman Gorman to allow for the street closure requested for Light up the Square on December 1, 2023. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

V. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS

A. Police 

1. Police Report. Asst. Chief Royce Shamhart gave the Police Report for the month of October 2023.

B. Fire

1. Captain Matt Price gave the Fire Report for October 2023. Jack Nale has been a Cadet since August 2023. He has now turned 18 and wants to join the Petersburg Fire Department. A motion made by Alderman Allison seconded by Alderman Gorman to add Jack Nale as a Probationary Fireman. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

2. Discussion on proceeding with inspection and purchase of the FDNY fire Truck.

C. Zoning

None

VI. OFFICERS’ REPORTS

A. Mayor’s Report

1. Appoint Megan Simmering to Library Board. A motion made by Alderman Gorman seconded by Alderman Allison to appoint Megan Simmering to the Library Board effective 11/7/2023. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

2. Appoint Tia Baugher as Ward I Alderman to replace Nate Grosboll who plans to resign before the November 21, 2023 meeting. A motion made by Alderman Allison seconded by Gorman to approve the Mayor’s appointment of Tia Baugher as Ward I Alderman. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Allison, yes; Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. She will be sworn in at the next meeting.

1. Alderman Gorman had a question in regards to the Poultry Plant issue.

2. Bus Issue PORTA Elementary. Discussion on a meeting of the Mayor, PORTA Superintendent, Lori PORTA Bus Coordinator, Brian Whitehurst Street Superintendent to discuss the move of Bus parking to Monroe Street.

X. NEW BUSINESS

XII. ADJOURNMENT

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Allison to adjourn the meeting. VOTES: Allison, yes; Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes Mayor, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. Meeting Adjourned at 8:52 p.m.
