City of Petersburg City Council met April 2

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

I. CALL TO ORDER 

Mayor Snyder called the City Council to order at 7:07 p.m. 

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Sonnemaker to approve the appointment of Alderman Neil Conklin to Ward 1. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Mayor Snyder, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. 

Alderman Neil Conklin was sworn in as Ward 1 Alderman with the Official Oath. 

II. PRELIMINARY MATTERS 

A. Members present were Aldermen Tia Baugher, Bruce Gorman, Rick Sonnemaker, and Neil Conklin. Also present were Deputy City Clerk Tracy Ciesler, Treasurer David Frick, and City Attorney Jason Brokaw. Absent were Alderman Mike Allison and Alderman Andrew Gain. 

B. Mayor Snyder led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America. 

C. A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Baugher to approve the agenda as presented. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. 

III. CITY CLERK 

A. The Deputy City Clerk presented the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. A motion was made by Alderman Sonnemaker and seconded by Alderman Gorman to approve payment of the bills as listed on the Warrant List and Accounts Payable. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. 

B. A motion was made by Alderman Sonnemaker and seconded by Alderman Baugher to approve the Regular Meeting Minutes of March 19,2024. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. 

A. Samantha Weaver - requested road closures for Girls on the Run April 22,2024 from 3:30 - 5:00 pm 

IV. HEARING OF CITIZENS 

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Baugher to approve the Road Closures of Blue Jay Road, Sheridan Road, 14th Street and Monroe Street. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED. 

V. DEPARTMENTAL REPORTS 

A. Police 

1. Chief Mike Nichols gave the Report for the month of March 

2024. Responded to 141 calls. Officer Dosier attended FTO Training and is now a certified Field Training Officer. 

B. Fire 

1. Assistant Chief Eric Heubner gave the Fire Report for the 

month of March 2024. Ran a total of 27 calls. Some members will be attending the NWS Severe Weather Spotter training on April 3rd. 

VI OFFICERS' REPORTS 

A. Mayor's Report 

1. The Riverbank Lodge is requesting TIF Money to be used for a retaining wall. They will bring forward an application at the next meeting so that they can get started on it. 

2. Mike Feriozzi sent the Council an Engagement Letter for audit services for the 2024-25 fiscal year. 

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Baugher to accept the engagement letter by Mike Feriozzi for his upcoming audit services as presented. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.

X. Old Business 

A. We signed a new Memorandum of Understanding for DNR and the dam removal because the other one had expired. 

B. Rosenthal brought IDOT officials to dinner in the area and they saw how bad the Highway is and the hope is that they will get moving on the Highway 97 construction quicker. 

C. Construction has started on Jaycee Park playground and the bathroom construction is scheduled to start around May. 

D. Petersburg Athletic Association is wanting to do some updates to the concession stand at Hurie Park with a possible water heater and 3 bay commercial sink. Discussion was had about costs and what other options there are for selling food at ball games. A food truck was a suggestion. 

E. Benjamin Stephenson Memorial Celebration is April 13 and also Hunter Safety Course is April 13 weekend as well.

A motion was made by Alderman Gorman and seconded by Alderman Baugher to adjourn at 7:49 pm. VOTES: Sonnemaker, yes; Gorman, yes; Baugher, yes; Conklin, yes. Mayor Snyder declared the MOTION CARRIED.
