The Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office has revealed the recipients of the 2024 Small Equipment Grants, aimed at enhancing the firefighting and ambulance equipment of various fire departments. In a statement, it was emphasized, "It’s important we support our fire departments and volunteers that keep our communities safe." The grants are anticipated to make a significant impact, particularly in rural areas, as highlighted by the comment, "These grants will certainly benefit the fire departments, especially in the rural communities."

Among the fire departments set to benefit from the grants are:

- Mount Olive Fire Protection District in Macoupin County: $23,121

- Girard Fire Protection District in Macoupin County: $22,322

- Virden Fire Protection District in Macoupin County: $25,436.25

- Farmersville Waggoner Fire Protection District in Montgomery County: $25,435.06

- Raymond Community Fire Protection District in Montgomery County: $24,999.90

- Litchfield Fire Department in Montgomery County: $19,811

- Dawson Fire Protection District in Sangamon County: $25,320

- Auburn Fire and Rescue in Sangamon County: $24,036

- Pawnee Fire Protection District in Sangamon County: $24,739.60

- New Berlin-Island Grove Fire Protection District in Sangamon County: $7,998

Expressing satisfaction at the allocation of grants, a representative stated, "I’m thrilled to see several departments in the 108th District receive the OSFM Small Equipment Grants."

In a related development, State Representative Wayne Rosenthal (R-Morrisonville) engaged in discussions with Mike Abbott from the Dawson Fire Department regarding the safety of small-town first responders and residents.
