State Representative Wayne Rosenthal and Rep. Coffey recently toured the new Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA) state agency headquarters in Springfield. The state of Illinois acquired the space previously occupied by Sears, located in White Oaks Mall, to facilitate improvements to the 9th Street railroad corridor.
This move is expected to bring several benefits to both the state and the 95th District. Notably, it will save money for the state by eliminating costly leases from current locations. It is also anticipated to increase consumer traffic to the mall and surrounding businesses.
The new IEPA headquarters is projected to accommodate over 800 employees. Additionally, the state has purchased property at 4800 West Wabash Ave., formerly owned by Wells Fargo, with future plans yet to be determined.
"I will provide more information on that location as I hear more," said Rep. Coffey.
Aaron Ladzinski from the Illinois Department of Central Management Services provided an informative tour and explained how this transition would benefit the state.
