Village of La Grange Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met July 2

Here are the minutes provided by the commissioners:

1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

A meeting of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BOFPC) of the Village of La Grange was held on July 2, 2024. The meeting was called to order at 5:35 p.m.

PRESENT (and constituting a quorum): Chairperson Hoffenberg and Commissioner Boersma

ABSENT: Commissioner Levato

ALSO PRESENT: Tim Griffin, Police Chief

2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES – June 19, 2024

The minutes of the June 19, 2024 meeting were presented for approval. After consideration, it was moved by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Chairperson Hoffenberg that the minutes from the June 19, 2024 meeting be approved. Motion carried; minutes approved.

3. BUSINESS AT HAND

A. Approval – Initial Eligibility Register – Police Officer

Police Chief Griffin reported that the written exam was held on Sunday, June 30, 2024.

Seventeen out of twenty-six eligible applicants took the exam. Fifteen applicants passed the exam. Chief Griffin stated that after the initial eligibility register is approved, I/O Solutions will start the preference points process. The final eligibility register is anticipated to be presented to the Commission during in the July 17th BOFPC meeting. With fifteen candidates, Chief Griffin suggested having two BOFPC meetings to conduct oral interviews.

After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Chairperson Hoffenberg to approve the Initial Eligibility Register for Police Officer.

B. Approval – Final Alternative Eligibility Register – Police Officer

Police Chief Griffin presented Lateral Police Officer candidate Thomas Dransoff to the Commission. Chief Griffin stated that Mr. Dransoff has twenty-four years of law enforcement experience, is currently employed by the Oak Park Police Department and is interested in starting his second career. Chief Griffin stated that the Police Department was impressed with candidate Thomas Dransoff during his command staff interview.

After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Chairperson Hoffenberg to approve the Final Alternative Eligibility Register for Police Officer.

C. Conditional Offer of Employment – Police Officer

Police Chief Griffin recommended to the Commission to provide a conditional offer of employment to lateral Candidate Thomas Dransoff.

After discussion, a motion was made by Commissioner Boersma and seconded by Chairperson Hoffenberg to approve the conditional offer of employment pending on the pre-employment requirements and the Chief’s discretion. Motion carried.

4. OLD BUSINESS

None.

5. NEW BUSINESS

None.

6. PUBIC COMMENT

None.

7. CLOSED SESSION

Chairperson Hoffenberg asked for a motion to recess to Closed Session. Chairperson Hoffenberg made a motion to recess to Closed Session under Section 2(c)(1) of the Illinois Open Meetings Act for the purpose of discussing the appointment or employment of specific candidates who applied for the lateral police officer openings and conducting oral interviews. Commissioner Boersma seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously, the BOFPC entered Closed Session at 5:42 p.m.

Chairperson Hoffenberg asked for a motion to reconvene from Closed Session. Chairperson Hoffenberg made a motion to reconvene to open session. Commissioner Boersma seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. The BOFPC returned to regular session at 6:11 p.m.

8. ADJOURNMENT

Having no further business before the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, Commissioner Boersma made a motion to adjourn, Chairperson Hoffenberg seconded.

Motion carried; meeting adjourned at 6:13 p.m.
