As the back-to-school season begins, increased activity involving children, families, and buses is expected on daily commutes. Authorities urge drivers to prioritize safety by slowing down near bus stops and school zones.

A survey from AAA reveals that over half of Illinois residents drive through a school zone or pass a bus stop during their regular commute. Alarmingly, 39% admitted to speeding in an active school zone, while 30% acknowledged using their hand-held cell phone while driving in such areas.

Safety tips for travelers during school days include specific guidelines for pedestrians, parents, bicyclists, and students.
