The Illinois College women's tennis team split a pair of matches during its opening weekend of play on Saturday at the Webster Groves Tennis Center.

The Lady Blues dropped a tight 4-3 match to Webster in the opener but rebounded to stop Southwestern Illinois College, 6-1, in the nightcap.

In the opener, Webster won the doubles point by sweeping all three matches, which proved to be the difference as the teams split the singles play. The Lady Blues earned singles victories from Alyssa Wise at No. 1, Sophie Muir at No. 2, and Chloe Plough at No. 6.

The second dual saw IC take the doubles point with wins from Wise and Muir at No. 1 and Maddie Eastin and Plough at No. 3. IC won five of the six singles matches, as Wise (No. 1), Lily Ingram (No. 3), Eastin (No. 4), Hannah Lueke (No. 5) and Sophi Barrow (No. 6) all earned victories.

The Lady Blues make their home debut on Wednesday when they entertain Millikin. The first serve is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. at the Bellatti Tennis Complex.
