The Illinois College women's soccer team secured a 2-0 win against Stephens in a non-conference match on Wednesday. This victory brings the Lady Blues' season record to 7-2-1, while the Stars now stand at 1-5-2.
Illinois College took the lead at the 30:05 mark when Stephens scored an own goal. The score remained unchanged until Holly Morehart netted an insurance goal at the 82:56 mark.
Goalkeepers Stella Gonzalez and Sophia Kriegesmann shared duties for Illinois College, combining for a shutout. Gonzalez played the first half and made two saves, while Kriegesmann maintained the clean sheet in the second half.
Offensively, Olivia Ralston led Illinois College with four shots, and Haley Sommer added three. The Lady Blues out-shot the Stars 16-4 throughout the match.
"The Lady Blues are off to the best start in school history at 7-2-1," noted team officials. "IC has scored first in nine of the team's 10 matches this season."
Next up for Illinois College is the start of their Midwest Conference schedule on Saturday when they host Ripon at England Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
