Illinois College women’s soccer draws with Ripon in conference opener

The Illinois College women's soccer team recorded a 1-1 draw with Ripon in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams on Saturday at England Stadium.

Illinois College now has an overall record of 6-2-2 and a conference record of 0-0-1. The Red Hawks are currently 2-5-3 overall and also hold a conference record of 0-0-1.

The match was tightly contested throughout, but the Lady Blues managed to score just before halftime when Holly Morehart found the net off a feed from Abbi Renwick at the 44:28 mark.

After halftime, Ripon quickly equalized as Martina Palazzolo scored just over two minutes into the second period (47:21).

Both teams had opportunities throughout the remainder of the contest but were unable to convert any further chances.

Illinois College out-shot Ripon, 7-3, with Haley Sommer and Olivia Ralston leading with two shots each. Sophia Kriegesmann posted a save while playing the entire match in goal.

Next, Illinois College will play at home again on Tuesday against UHSP in their final non-conference match of the season at England Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
