FOIA Request Sent to Logan County Regarding Vendor Payments on September 26, 2024

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Logan County on September 26, 2024, by us at Sangamon Sun. The request seeks access to records of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024, until the date of the request.

The requested information includes the vendor's name, transaction date, description of the transaction, and the amount paid. As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we believe that access to such public records is essential for fulfilling our professional responsibilities.

Our aim is to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we have requested a fee waiver as a media professional.

In related news, The Illinois Department of Transportation announced in July 2023 the most extensive multi-year program called Rebuild Illinois. This initiative aims to improve and repair all modes of transportation across the state. Governor JB Pritzker stated that over $40 billion would be invested over six years for better roads and bridges, modernized transit and aviation, and expanded and faster passenger rail service.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation, ten major projects are being planned or implemented in Chicago under JB Pritzker's Rebuild Illinois program. A total investment of $396 million is being made in these projects with an aim to improve safety and mobility on Illinois's roads and bridges. Three out of these ten projects are scheduled for completion in 2024 while the remaining seven are projected for completion between 2025 through 2030.

Furthermore, they announced an investment of $107 million in seven projects in Kane County under this program. Central Cook County will also see significant improvements with an investment of $220 million in ten projects dedicated towards constructing roads and bridges under the Rebuild Illinois program.
