The Illinois College women's soccer team secured a 3-2 victory over the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis on Tuesday at England Stadium. This match marked their final non-conference game of the season.
With this win, Illinois College improved its record to 8-2-2, while UHSP's record fell to 3-4-0.
UHSP took an early lead with a goal from Kyndal Adams just 2:32 into the game. Illinois College responded by controlling possession for most of the first half and equalized at the 28:14 mark when Abby Love scored off a pass from Olivia Ralston.
Illinois College then took the lead just before halftime with Erin O'Connell scoring at the 42:37 mark. The Lady Blues extended their lead at the 60:39 mark with a penalty kick goal by Haley Sommer. UHSP managed to score again at 70:41, but it was not enough to overcome Illinois College's lead.
Sommer led Illinois College's offense with six shots, while Ralston contributed five. McKenzie Murray and Love each added four shots.
Goalkeeping duties were split between Sophia Kriegesmann in the first half and Stella Gonzalez in the second half, each making one save.
This match concluded Illinois College's non-conference schedule with an 8-2-1 record, marking their best non-conference performance in school history. Notably, this was only the second match of the season where Illinois College did not score first.
The Lady Blues will return to league play next week when they travel to Knox for a Midwest Conference match scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
