The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now available to assist income-qualified households with their energy bills. The program provides support for natural gas, propane, electricity bills, and furnace assistance. Applications are open until August 15, 2025, or until the funds are depleted.

LIHEAP offers one-time payments directly to energy service providers on behalf of recipients. The amount of assistance varies based on individual family needs. Last year, over 333,000 households benefited from LIHEAP, receiving an average of more than $724 per household.

In related news, State Representative Mike Coffey is advocating for legislation aimed at protecting senior citizens in Illinois. "High inflation and the cost of living impacts families and retirees across Illinois," Coffey stated. "I’m proud to back legislation to protect senior citizens and their retirement income to ensure tax relief for those that need it the most. I will always back legislation that supports a cause to make Illinois a more affordable and safer place to live."

Further information about the legislation supported by Rep. Coffey can be found online.
