Illinois College swim teams conclude season at MWC Championships

The Illinois College men's and women's swim teams recently participated in the 2023 MWC Championships held at Grinnell College. The men's team secured a seventh-place finish with a score of 161, while the women's team finished eighth with a score of 182.

Leading the men's team was Nathen Trachta, who delivered a record-breaking performance in the 100-butterfly event with a time of 52.93 seconds. This achievement set a new school record for Illinois College. Trachta also achieved seventh place in the 200-yard butterfly, completing it in 2:03.09. Other notable performances from the men's team included Cooper Meyer, who placed fourth in the one-meter diving competition with a score of 264.50, and the 800-yard freestyle relay team, which finished seventh with a time of 7:44.74.

On the women's side, Tovah Brooks made headlines by breaking records in the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:23.94, earning her top spot in Illinois College's record books for that event. Additional noteworthy results for the women's team included a fifth-place finish by the 400-yard medley relay team (4:18.80), fourth place by the 800-yard freestyle relay team (8:25.92), and sixth place by the 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:49.98).

This event concludes the swim season for both teams as they prepare for future competitions.
