Illinois College men's tennis splits double-header; defeats Ripon but falls to Lawrence

The Illinois College men's tennis team engaged in a double-header on Saturday at the Bellatti Tennis Complex, hosting Ripon College and Lawrence University as part of their Midwest Conference play. The Blueboys managed to secure a victory against Ripon but faced defeat against Lawrence.

In the first match, Illinois College defeated Ripon with a score of 7-2. The Blueboys began strongly by winning all three doubles matches. Jeff Wernsing and Glenn Conway secured an 8-3 win in the No. 1 doubles match. Grayson Dupre and Andrus Dupre triumphed in a tiebreaker set with a 7-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles match, while Allen Oakley and Momir Vickovic won their No. 3 doubles match with an identical score of 8-3.

The singles matches saw Illinois College winning four out of six encounters, leading to their overall victory. In the No. 1 singles match, Wernsing was narrowly defeated by Caleb Sippel after a close tiebreaker set ending at 5-7. Conway claimed victory in straight sets (6-1, 6-3) during his No. 2 singles match.

Grayson Dupre faced Ty Rondestvedt in the No. 3 singles match but lost after a competitive tiebreaker set (4-7). Andrus Dupre succeeded against Jaden Francis in two sets (6-3, 6-4) during the No. 4 singles encounter.

In their second match against Lawrence University, Illinois College struggled and lost with a final score of 1-8. The Blueboys were unable to capture any wins in the doubles matches despite close scores across all three games.

In single matches against Lawrence, Grayson Dupre's contest with Owen Horton was particularly intense but ended with Dupre losing after an extended tiebreaker set (12-14). Andrus Dupre managed to secure one win for IC by defeating Gabriel Garcia after another challenging tiebreaker set (7-3).

Illinois College now holds an overall record of 7-10 and is scheduled to begin a four-game road trip starting Sunday against Westminster College for a non-conference game.
