Illinois College has appointed Robert Vedda as the new head coach for its esports program. Vedda previously served as the Director of Esports at Cleveland State since 2019, where he led the Esports Club in competitions such as League of Legends. He also held roles as head coach and caster at 1Life2Play in Parma, Ohio.
"I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the coaching staff at IC and excited to share my passion with the players there," Vedda expressed. "I'm looking forward most to the day-to-day grind and the lessons I'll learn along the way."
Vedda graduated from Cleveland State with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a minor in Spanish in 2017.
Meghan Roman, Interim Athletic Director at Illinois College, commented on Vedda's appointment: "Robert is coming to Illinois College with a strong background in League of Legends and a history of success. His strong work ethic and progressive mindset have us very excited about the future of our esports program here at Illinois College. We believe Robert will be a great addition to the IC staff."
The college's esports team aims to improve its performance from last season, where it finished with a record of 4-6 and lost in the MEC Championship to Grand View University.
