The Illinois College E-Sports team secured a victory in the opening round of the MEC (UCL) SSBU Playoffs against Campbellsville University, with a score of 1-0. The tournament follows a double-elimination format, making this initial win important for their progression in the playoffs.

The match lineup included Matthew Hallanger, Daniel Scott, Theodore Biela, Jake Petrovich, and Julian Luaders. Initially trailing by five stocks after the first two matches, Illinois College managed to turn the game around through efforts from Biela, Petrovich, and Luaders. The final showdown came down to three stocks each side. Julian Luaders played using his signature character Mewtwo and secured the decisive win for Illinois College.

Following this victory, Illinois College is set to face Miami University (OH), which holds the second seed position. This match will take place on Wednesday at 4:00 pm in the upper bracket semi-finals.
