The Illinois College men's soccer team concluded their regular season with a decisive 4-1 victory over Beloit at England Stadium on Saturday. This win secured the Blueboys the second seed in the upcoming Midwest Conference Tournament.
With this victory, Illinois College improved their overall record to 13-4-1 and their conference record to 7-1-0. Meanwhile, Beloit ended its season with a 2-16 record and a conference record of 1-7. The Blueboys' success, combined with Lake Forest's win over Cornell, means they will face Lake Forest next weekend in the tournament.
The match saw an early lead for Illinois College as Tyler Schiltz scored two goals within the first 20 minutes. His first goal came at the 6:07 mark assisted by Thomas Menke, followed by another goal at 19:14 assisted by Paul Adams. Although Beloit managed to score at 35:58, Aidan Gowin restored IC's two-goal advantage with an unassisted goal at 42:45.
In the second half, Jason Hernandez sealed the game with a goal from Jives Efemini at 85:10. Illinois College dominated the match, outshooting Beloit 32-6. Sam Blair led with five shots while Schiltz, Gowin, Oscar Liogon Arenas, and Tyler Lunning each contributed four shots. Goalkeeper Owen Macias made two saves for Illinois College.
This victory marks a historic season for Illinois College as they achieved their highest number of wins in school history. Schiltz now holds school records in goals, assists, points, and shots. Macias ranks third all-time in goals against average and seventh in shutouts for Illinois College.
The Blueboys will travel to Lake Forest for the Midwest Conference Tournament starting on Friday. Details regarding their opponent and game time will be released later this weekend.
