FOIA Request to City of Auburn Regarding Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
In our continuous efforts to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Sangamon Sun have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Auburn. The request, dated October 30, 2024, seeks access to specific records pertaining to residential and commercial building permits issued in the city from January 1, 2023 till the present date.
The requested information includes a list of all new residential and commercial building permits with details such as type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name. We also requested for a list of all active residential and commercial building permits along with their current status.
As part of our mission to hold public institutions accountable and provide transparency to the public, we believe that access to these records is essential. It allows us to gather pertinent information that can be disseminated effectively to our readers.
We have requested these records preferably in an electronic format for ease of analysis and reporting. Given our role as a media organization dedicated to public service journalism, we have also asked for a fee waiver for this request.
