A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted to the Illinois Department of Revenue on October 31, 2024. The request was made by us at Sangamon Sun, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request sought access to all state monthly sales tax reports from January 2023 until October 2024. The requested records should include the following fields: Year, Month, City name, County name, and Amount Collected.
As a media organization, we are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional. We continue to work towards keeping the public informed about matters that affect them directly or indirectly.
We await a positive response from the Illinois Department of Revenue regarding this FOIA request.
