House Republicans have put forward a new bill aimed at securing funding for programs that provide meals to senior citizens in Illinois. House Bill 5911 proposes reallocating $25 million from migrant welcoming centers to the Home Delivered Meals Program, which supports services like Meals on Wheels.

Programs such as Senior Services of Central Illinois offer nutrition assistance to seniors who need it. These home-delivered meals are intended for individuals aged 60 and above who are homebound and follow a general diet.

Representative Coffey has been vocal about his efforts to support senior citizens amid rising living costs in Illinois. He is advocating for tax relief measures designed to make the state more affordable, particularly for those on fixed incomes.

Illinois provides various resources for its senior residents, including caregiver services, discounts, travel opportunities, and volunteer activities. More information can be found at centralilseniors.org.
