A new initiative by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) aims to enhance the precision of location data crucial for various applications such as surveying, mapping, construction, and engineering.

In August, IDOT began establishing a network of fixed monuments known as Continuously Operating Reference Stations. These installations are located in Litchfield, Petersburg, and Jacksonville. The stations will function as consistent reference points to continuously capture and relay 3D location data to satellites and other receivers in the vicinity. This system is designed to improve their ability to determine positions with increased accuracy.

The project reflects IDOT's commitment to leveraging technology for better infrastructure planning and development.
